Two Britons have died after a cable car plunged to the ground in southern Italy.
Two other people were killed in the incident.
A fifth person is in hospital with serious injuries.
It’s reported a steel cable snapped on the line connecting the seaside town of Castellammare di Stabia to Monte Faito.
A second cabin was stuck in mid-air near the base of the mountain.
The nine tourists on board were safely evacuated one by one in a complex rescue using harnesses.
The Italian police confirmed a 58-year-old British woman and her partner were killed.
No names have been released.
A twenty-six-year-old Israeli tourist also died.
Her boyfriend is in a Naples hospital with serious injuries to his legs.
Cable car worker Carmine Parlato, 58, also perished in the accident.
He was married with a 22-year-old son.
His colleague Carmine Maresca: “I’m speechless, he was such a nice person.”
The cable car route is close to Sorrento, a seaside resort popular with British visitors.
The accident happened a week after the cable car opened for the summer season.
Italy’s prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, sent her condolences from Washington, where she was meeting the US president, Donald Trump.
