Hollywood superstar Gene Hackman – a double Oscar winner – has died alongside his wife and dog.
They were found dead at their home in Santa Fe.
New Mexico police are investigating the cause of the deaths but do not suspect foul play.
Hackman was aged 95.
His wife, Betsy Arakawa, a retired pianist, was aged 63.
Hackman won a best actor Oscar for playing “Popeye” Doyle in The French Connection and best supporting actor in Clint Eastwood’s film Unforgiven.
Hackman had more than 100 film credits to his name.
A statement from the Santa Fe County Sheriff said:
“This is an active investigation into the deaths.
“We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday afternoon at their residence on Sunset Trail.
“This is an active investigation – however, at this time we do not believe that foul play was a factor.”
