Former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has been fined £1,175 for hiking in a restricted part of the Yellowstone National Park.
He was charged after posting pictures of himself at the “out-of-bounds” thermal springs.
Brosnan, 70, admitted to breaking the park’s rules and stepping off a trail near the Mammoth Terraces geo-thermal hot springs during a visit in November.
He had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges.
After the hearing he posted:
“As an environmentalist I have the utmost respect for and love of our natural world.
“However, I made an impulsive mistake – one that I do not take lightly – when entering a thermal area covered in snow in Yellowstone National Park to take a photograph.
“I did not see a ‘no trespassing’ sign posted that warned of danger nor did I hike in the immediate area.
“I deeply regret my transgression and offer my heartfelt apologies to all for trespassing in this sensitive area.
“Yellowstone and all our National Parks are to be cared for and preserved for all to enjoy.”
Mammoth Terraces is one of the park’s hundreds of thermal features, which vary from spouting geysers to gurgling mud pots, and water soaring up to 79.4C.
