Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.

The allegations against the 20-year-old player were posted online in a disturbing video clip.

The alleged victim’s Instagram account appeared to show her bleeding from the mouth.

Pictures seem to indicate bruising to her legs, eye, thigh and ar.

In a separate audio note posted online the woman can be heard

She names Mason Greenwood.

Greater Manchester police visited the woman at her home and took a statement.

Officers later confirmed a man in his 20s had been arrested.

Manchester United quickly confirmed Mason Greenwood “will not return to training or play matches until further notice”.

He was being held in custody as he faced questioning by police.

Clips posted to Instagram appeared to show bruising to the woman’s legs, eye, thigh and arms, as well as a bleeding lip.

An audio note was also uploaded where a woman can be heard apparently refusing to have sex with a man who she calls Mason.

When the woman says, “I don’t want to have sex”, the man says he “doesn’t care”.

And, when told to stop again, he says:

“I asked you politely, and you wouldn’t do it, so what else do you want me to do?”.

He can then be heard saying:

“Push me again one more time and watch what happens to you.”

The posts were later deleted.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said:

“An investigation was launched and, following inquiries, we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.

He remains in custody for questioning.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”

Nike, which sponsors Greenwood, released a statement saying it was “deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation”.

Greenwood has not responded to the allegations.

He joined the Old Trafford club as a six-year-old and climbed through the academy ranks.

He has played for United 87 times since 2018.

His contract runs until 2025.
