England fast bowler Ollie Robinson faces being dropped from the next Test match against New Zealand.
He is likely to be axed after several sexist and racist tweets were revealed.
Despite making an impressive debut with 4-75 the bowler faces investigation by the England and Wales Cricket Board.
The offensive tweets were written when Robinson was a teenager and just breaking into first-class cricket.
They included: “I wonder if Asian people put smileys like this ¦) #racist”.
Robinson apologised in the Lord’s dressing room to his team-mates
Graham Thorpe
Graham Thorpe, England’s assistant coach, said:
“He had to say sorry to the dressing room, he had to say sorry to the world about what he did.
“So, from that perspective it’s very hard for him but he knows he made mistakes.
“At the end of the day, that’s why he had to make those apologies.
“But in our dressing room, we had to support him as well.”
“We were really pleased, actually, that he showed good character and he had to be pretty resilient because of what he’s done.
“That’s still not easy, then to go back out onto the stage and perform and I thought his level of performance was exceptional so far in that first innings.
“We had to stick together. We had to talk about it, we had to get it out and we had to come back in fresh this morning and stand up and do our jobs as well.”
