A German prosecutor says there is “some evidence” that Madeleine McCann is dead.
Hans Christian Wolter said there was “”no information that she is alive”.
Mr Wolter has appealed for British tourists to help with information about the main suspect Christian Brüeckner.
The 43-year-old man was living in Praia da Luz in Portugal when the toddler disappeared.
The police need to know about Brüeckner’s time in the resort between 1995 and 2007.
Christian Brüeckner.
Mr Wolter said:
“After all the information we got, the girl is dead.
“We have no information that she is alive.
“All indications we have got that I can’t tell you points in the direction that Madeleine is dead.
“We got things we cannot communicate that speak for the theory that Madeleine is dead, even if I have to admit that we don’t have the body.”
Speaking to SKY news from at his office in Braunschweig Mr Wolters continued:
“The hard evidence we don’t have, we don’t have the crucial evidence of Madeline McCann’s body.”
