Prof Van-Tam
A chief medical adviser to the Government has given the clearest answer so far on a lockdown trip taken by Dominic Cummings.
Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, England’s deputy chief medical officer, said the rules were clear.
While many have obfuscated about commenting on Mr Cummings’ allegedly “lawful” trip to self-isolate at his parents’ estate, Prof. Van-Tam did not hesitate.
During the daily news briefing on the Covid-19 pandemic, Prof. Van-Tam was asked if people in charge should give a lead and obey the rules.
He said: “Thank you for the question and I’m quite happy to answer it.
“In my opinion the rules are clear, and they have always been clear.
“In my opinion, they are for the benefit of all and in my opinion, they apply to all.”
The remarks instantly made Prof. Van-Tam a social media trending hit.
On Thursday Prime Minister Boris Johnson told journalists his medical advisers would not be answering questions about Mr Cummings’ 260-mile journey to the North East.
