For the first time in the history of US presidential elections, the University of St Andrews is hosting a polling station for the Democrats Abroad Global Primary.
US citizens who are members of the Democratic party are today able to vote for their preferred candidate in the Democratic Primary.
There are only five such polling stations in the UK: London, Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh and St Andrews.
Although the polling station at Edinburgh University has operated before, this is the first time one has been created in St Andrews.
Camilla Duke, President of Democrats Overseas St Andrews and final year student in International Relations and Modern History, said:
“We have a significant population of US students and University staff at St Andrews, so it is great to be able to offer this for them.
“But the polling station is open to all members of the Democratic party, not just staff and students at the University of St Andrews.
“We were busy from the moment we opened the doors, so we anticipate a busy day.”
The polling station will be open from 10am to 6pm.
