Pub landlady pays the penalty handing over 300 free beers as Nottingham Forest win 7-0

Beccy Webster

Pub landlady Beccy Webster served up more than 300 free beers when a promotion backfired.

Beccy, at The Gedling Inn, offered an “on the house” pint every time local Premier League side Nottingham Forest scored a goal.

Fresh from a 5-0 thrashing the week before by Bournemouth no one expected the city team to come roaring back.

But they did – knocking in seven goals against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Beccy said: “When the final whistle went, I just said ‘phew!'”

The Gedling pub had only decided on the offer on the day of the game.

It was a promotional idea to mark them televising the game against Brighton.

Cheers, Beccy

Beccy said: “We’ve only just started televising games when we decided on ‘a crazy offer”.

“Never in my wildest dreams did we imagine they’d score seven goals.

“I was upstairs feeding my baby when I heard the first goal go in, then the second quickly afterwards.

“I had just come downstairs when the third went in – I thought ‘here we go’.”

Despite handing out the 300 or so free drinks Beccy said:

“It was still a great day.

“People were singing, and people were respectful with the offer.

“Lots of people were still buying drinks, many stayed for food, and lots have been asking if we’ll be having any more offers on!

“It’s just nice to get behind the team.

“It’s good for the whole city, they’re putting us on the map.”
