His agent confirmed that Brazilian football star Pele had died at the age 82.
He was a former Santos FC star and is widely considered one of the greatest players of all time.
Just before Christmas, a medical report showed that he required care to treat his cardiac and renal dysfunction. He had been fighting colon cancer since September 2021.

Pele, originally known as Edson Arantes Do Nascimento, began playing for Santos when he was 15 years old. He joined the Brazilian national football team one year later. In 1958, Pele burst onto the international football scene at age 17.
He was the only international player to win three World Cups during his career – in 1962, 1970, and 1958.
The hospital released a statement saying that he died from multiple organ failure due to colon cancer.
Gary Lineker was one of those who hailed Pele’s legacy after the news of his passing.
On Twitter, he said: “The most sublime of footballers and joyful of men.
“He played a sport that only a handful of people have even come close to.”
Sir Geoff Hurst, England World Cup winner, said that Pele “remains one of the greatest of all times”.
He stated that he had so many memories of Pele. Without doubt, he was the greatest footballer I have ever played against (with Bobby Moore being my favorite footballer).
“Pele is my favorite player of all time, and I am proud to have been on the pitch with him.” Pele, we will miss you and we thank you.
Lionel Messi is another great footballer. He shared his simple reflection: “Rest and peace.”
Pele’s role as Brazil’s third victor in Mexico, 1970, is a part of football legends. He was a crucial member of what is arguably the greatest international football team.
He scored 757 goals in 831 games over his 20-year career, but Santos claims that his total was closer to 1,000.

Following his death, Pele posted a post to his official Instagram account stating that the icon “enchanted all the world”.
“Inspiration, love and perseverance were the hallmarks of King Pele’s journey. He peacefully died today.
“Edson’s journey was a magical one. He stopped wars, performed social works around the globe, and shared what he believed to be the solution to all our problems: love.
“His message today is a legacy for future generations.
“Love, Love, and Loving, Forever”
