After a shooting at a St Lucia bar, a British man was shot and killed while his friend sustained injuries.
Peter Jackson and Donnie McKinnon were apparently on the balcony at a Soufriere bar on Market Road when masked gunmen opened fired on them on Saturday afternoon.
Mr McKinnon was from Scotland and died while Mr Jackson, originally from Accrington (Lancashire), was admitted to the hospital.
According to the St Lucia Times, both British men had been living on the island for some time.
According to the publication, McKinnon had moved to St Lucia many years ago and was now a citizen of the country. He is the manager of Soufriere Estate (a former working plantation of 2,000 acres).
According to reports, he was a resident in Reunion, Choiseul on the southwestern end of the island.
Local media reported that Mr Jackson, 72 years old, has lived in St Lucia for more than 30 years. He is also a citizen.
He is also an activist in the community and was once director of Soufriere Regional Development Foundation.
They were known by everyone. They were community members. “This is very sad,” one person said to the St Lucia Times.
A local resident posted on Facebook, “Still shaken. Near my family’s home, at a waterfront bar. Two people were killed. One died.”
According to reports, the incident sent shockwaves through Soufriere where residents claimed both men were well-known.
A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office stated that they were supporting the family of a British citizen who died and one who was injured in St Lucia.
Saint Lucia recorded 67 homicides in this year.
