Boris Johnson, the UK’s largest independent hospital provider, and the UK’s largest hospital provider have joined forces to launch an urgent appeal for medical supplies that will be sent to Ukrainian hospitals.
This appeal is to aid hospitals that treat the sick and injured. If they don’t receive donations, they could run out of essential items in a matter of weeks.
, the former prime minister, visited Enfield, north London to see where supplies from Circle Health were gathered.
To see firsthand how a lorry transports hospital kits across Europe, he was accompanied by the Ukrainian Ambassador.
Hospitals have been stretched to their limits by the war in Ukraine, with both supply chains and buildings destroyed.
Circle Health has shipped nearly 300 tonnes/PS3m of medical supplies to 13 lorries loads to hospitals in Kyiv and Kharkiv.
As the colder months approach, many hospitals are experiencing a shortage of supplies.
Rostyslav, a specialist in hepatobiliary, and pancreatic surgery from Kharkiv said that he saw an increasing number of elderly people who had stayed in Kharkiv but were injured by the violence.
“We do not have the equipment necessary to handle the large number of patients with complex injuries or conditions. Windows have been blown out and structures damaged at the hospital. We are grateful to the British for their support and allies.
Professor Vadym Shkhtyn from Odesa Regional Medical Centre stated that medical supplies would only last “two more months” because of the growing number of people who are injured.
Circle Health UK has a team of Ukrainian doctors who work directly with the medics to inform them about any equipment shortages.
The items are then collected from the 53 Circle Health hospitals in every region of England, and then sorted at their Enfield warehouse.

The loads are then driven by dedicated employees to the war-torn regions of Ukraine.
To date, hundreds of wheelchairs and anaesthetic machines, as well as scrubs, bandages and prosthetics have been delivered.
After the visit, Mr Johnson contacted the Great British Public and asked them to contribute to the appeal.
He stated that “Not one bed or bandage you provide will be wasted in the Herculean task to rebuild beautiful and brave Ukraine.” Slava Ukraini, the British people stand by you, this Christmas and forever.
