Sir Elton John to be made a Companions of Honour

Sir Elton John, 74, is to be awarded the Order of the Companions of Honour by the Prince of Wales during a Windsor Castle investiture ceremony.

The prestigious honour marks a global five-decade career as a musician and his campaigning work on Aids.

The Order of the Companions of Honour was set up in 1917 by George V in recognition of service of national importance.

It is made up of the sovereign and no more than 65 members.

People with Order of the Companions of Honour can place the letters CH after their name.

Other recipients include broadcaster Sir David Attenborough, actress Dame Judi Dench, Sir Paul McCartney, and Delia Smith.
