A man has been detained after staff at a petrol station were held hostage.
Armed police and a negotiator were called to the Esso station in Bristol after reports workers were hiding in a “safe room”.
A man with a knife was said to be in the station’s shop.
Bangs and flashes were seen and heard before police moved into the garage.
Moments later a man was led away in handcuffs.
Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement:
“We have detained a man in connection with an incident at a petrol station on Hengrove Way this morning.
“Investigations at the scene continue.”
It’s believed the police were sent a tweet message which said “a man armed with a knife” was inside.
The police added:
“Staff members are uninjured within a safe room and in contact with officers.
“One person has left the scene and gone to hospital with injuries not believed life-threatening.”
