A live 500 lbs WWII bomb unearthed by house builders has been blown up.
The bomb was destroyed in a controlled explosion by an army team of disposal experts.
It was found on a building site in Goole, East Yorkshire.
It’s thought the bomb had been dropped by a Lancaster bomber during a crash landing.
Homes were evacuated and the nearby M62 motorway between junctions 35 to 37 was closed.
A no-fly zone was also imposed.
John Sharpe, site manager of the Beal Homes development, said site called him about the find.
He added:
“They didn’t know what they’d dug up at first and a guy went down into the hole because we thought it was a metal pipe.
“As he uncovered it, he realised it was a bomb and got out pretty quickly.”
