Top Tory Michael Gove and his wife journalist Sarah Vine are separating after more than 20 years of marriage.
A statement to the Press Association said:
“Michael and Sarah have agreed to separate, and they are in the process of finalising their divorce.
“They will continue to support their two children and they remain close friends.
“The family politely ask for privacy at this time and will not be providing any further comment.”
The couple married in 2001 and have two children together.
A friend said the Goves had “drifted apart” and the separation is “amicable”.
No one else is involved.
Last week Ms Vine wrote a heart-searching article in the Mail on Sunday about the difficulties of being married to a high-flying politician.
