Scotland’s football team will not “take the knee” before their opening game in Euro 2020.

However, the players will continue to stand against racism.

England is now probably the only side in Group D to kneel before the whistle to start the match.

Scotland captain Andy Robertson said:

“It is important we continue to tackle the issue of racism and raise awareness of the need to change people’s mindsets but also their behaviours.

“Prior to our World Cup qualifiers in March we spoke as a group and felt that taking a stand was the best way for us to show solidarity and also to reinforce the need for meaningful change in society.”

Previously, Scotland’s manager Steve Clarke has said the gesture had become “a little diluted”.

Croatia – England’s opening opposition on Sunday – have said they will not take the knee.

And the Czech Republic are expected to take a similar stance.
