Sam Smalling, son Leo and Chris Smalling
Former Manchester United player Chris Smalling has been robbed by armed raiders.
The centre-back – who now plays for Roma – was at his home in Southern Rome when the attackers burst in at gunpoint.
The player was forced to open a safe and hand over Rolex watches and jewellery to the thieves.
Police were alerted just after 05.00 local time.
No one was harmed during the raid.
However, Smalling is said to be “shocked” at what happened but is now “calmer”.
Smalling joined Roma last October after a season on loan.
He played 31 times for England.
He lives in Rome with his wife Sam – a former model – and son Leo.
