Health Secretary Matt Hancock hopes Covid-19 will turn into a disease “we can live with, like we do flu”.
He said new drugs could be ready by the end of 2021 – making coronavirus a “treatable disease”.
His comments in the Daily Telegraph suggests Britain will live with Covid rather than the Government trying to end it.
He said: “I hope that Covid-19 will become a treatable disease by the end of the year.
“New treatments will be important in turning Covid from a pandemic that affects all of our lives into another illness that we have to live with, like we do flu.
“That’s where we need to get Covid to over the months to come”.
He added he hopes all adults in the UK will have been offered a vaccination “a bit before September”.
