Cats and dogs comfort owners during lockdown

Britain’s pets have played a crucial role in helping their owners cope with the coronavirus lockdown.

Cats and dogs have led the way boosting morale and motivation.

And they’ve helped with stress and anxiety, reports the animal charity Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

A survey of 2,000 animal owners showed how they relied on their pets for comfort while working from home.

Four in ten pet owners said having a pet with them during lockdown had helped them maintain a regular routine.

Nearly 60 per cent agreed having a pet with them helped boost their productivity and motivation.

The same percentage said cats and dogs were a reason to get up in the morning.

Even a fifth of owners have shared lunch with their dog.

And 43 per cent said their pet has helped reduce anxiety.

Dog owner David Gandy from Battersea said:

“Even though there have been frustrations with the necessary restrictions during lockdown, the dogs are blissfully oblivious to what is happening.

“They may indeed actually be enjoying it, with longer walks and more attention and playtime than ever before.”
